well, why not.

if you know something good is bound to end badly, is it still worth beginning? when does happiness outweigh the risk, the loss?

It can be but it doesn't have to be. My mother and father passed when I was very young. I would rather have my handful of memories than nothing at all if they had passed while I was even younger.
