These are starting to feel more and more regular. I don't tend to trust the City's patterns; it's a surprise not to be surprised.

As always, I'd appreciate any ideas on how to get out.

I have had vorse shocks, but thank you. This place--it isn't such a bad place to be held captive?

I can't say I've been held captive in any other contained universes, so I have no frame of reference.

That is something to be thankful for! But no, I have heard stories--from the others here, the vuns I have talked to--about curses?

Those happen every few days-- technically speaking this is a curse, though most don't involve visitors from outside the City. Some are dangerous; others are merely inconvenient, or embarrassing.

This? Your universe's structure changes because of these curses?

[aside] A selectively permeable membrane that can be controlled by curses. Assess possibility of the presence of higher intelligences, possibly telepathic. Recalibrate tricorder to scan for energy fields.

I'm not an expert on the technical aspects, but that seems like an appropriate way to put it. If this place has a structure to begin with.

It's... difficult to convey, what living here is like.

Everything has a structure, if not a consistent or logical vun. But enough of that; I'm being bothersome, I think.

Again, I can only speak for my own world... Which bears very little resemblance to this one.

Chicago. But-- even recognizing the names of cities, there's no guarantee there's any resemblance between our universes. In fact, it's unlikely that we're from the same one.

I doubt wery much that ve are from the same universe considering the existence of this universe. The odds are against it.

That is a fact which itself takes some getting used to. Or, it did for me; traveling between worlds is surprisingly commonplace for some people here.

Commonplace? No--no, no, no. It is vun thing, knowing that other universes exist and sometimes interacting vith them. It is another thing entirely to travel between them! That takes considerable energy, planning--or incredible circumstance.
