So. A while ago, I did a biopsy on one of my coworkers that left him brain-damaged and turned out to be totally unnecessary.

Wait, I didn't mean to say that-- I was going to talk about the time I took a patient's crys--

[Muffled mumbling as she covers her mouth and manages to turn the device off. For now. Not that that's going to last.]

Foreman. He was out for months, he kept confusing his left and right sides.

Oh... well. But, he came back? He's alright?

Cameron... medicine by nature is a risky profession, and right now you're working in what's probably the most dangerous area of the field. Mistakes happen, especially on a procedure like a brain biopsy. Even if you do everything perfectly, this kind of thing can still happen.

As to whether it was necessary, well, I'm sure you wouldn't have done this without thinking it was the only option. Sometimes we need to make decisions in a fraction of a second, and they can't always be right. What matters is that he's alright in the long run - and it is certainly not your fault.

I know. It's not like I did it because I was angry at him for stealing my article, or for stabbing me with a tainted needle.

He -- what?

We had a patient we couldn't diagnose, and Foreman got sick, too. House didn't want us going back to the patient's house, since we had no idea what had infected Foreman... He was in pain, he wasn't entirely himself-- it wasn't his fault-- so he stuck me with a needle I'd used on him. Since, if I got sick, I'd have to find out what was wrong with him to save myself.

That's... amazingly manipulative and unethical. I mean, not that I can really blame him, if the illness was affecting his personality, but -- well.

You know -- I really shouldn't be asking you about any of this right now. This is obviously a curse, and it's wrong of me to ask about all this under the circumstances. I was just concerned; I'm sorry.

It wasn't his fault. And, I mean, having given him brain damage, I really can't hold it against him. Even if he was a jerk. I mean, he's always kind of a jerk, but not like that.

Well, he's Foreman. He's not exactly warm and fuzzy, but he's usually got a reasonable grasp of basic ethics. I don't think he could have done that if it wasn't influencing his personality in some way.

Remind me never to go to you if I'm ever sick.

Just because I was hired because of my looks, you assume I'm a bad doctor? I'm not. I thought I had no choice. He wanted to do the biopsy; I waited as long as I could.

Who said your tits got you a paycheck? I didn't. Guilty conscience, Allison?

Supposing the curse is compelling you to remain on the network in addition to divulging secrets, this advice might be useless, but if possible, you might find it best to either step away or break your device to keep yourself from it.

You can get a new one in any number of empty apartments when the curse is over.

[After a moment, as she tries to keep herself from doing it, you can hear her pick the communicator up, sighing slightly.]

Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm fine. I just didn't want to tell you that you looked just like someone I used to-- to have sort of a relationship with--! I'm so sorry, I can't help myself...

[ PAUSE ]

Nothing you don't already know about. If you'd been able to catch the blind bird I wouldn't have had to cut into Foreman's brain.

Doctors make bad calls. It happens.

It wasn't exactly a wrong call? I mean, the biopsy gave us the answer... just... House found it in the water, at the same time. If I'd waited just another minute or two, he wouldn't have had to go through all of that...

Regret is a useless emotion. You can't change what happened by thinking of all the things you could have done differently.

I don't regret it. I don't know why I'm talking about it, I can't seem to stop. At least if I'm talking about that I'm not talking about sleeping with Chase. I didn't mean to--! oh--! I really can't stop, I'm sorry...

This is probably the effect of one of the "curses."

Women in many cultures are ashamed to talk about their sexual histories, afraid that it will make them seem impure and unattractive to men. Chastity is a mark of status.

Since this is very likely curse-driven behavior, I don't think you have anything to be ashamed about.

What? No, I'm not that much of a prude, it's just. I took a patient's drugs once and called one of my coworkers over for a night of random sex, and then later we had this relationship that wasn't a relationship and I really can't stop talking about this.
