Anywhere else, this would be a philosophical question. Here I'm sure some of you can speak from experience.

Given the chance to get a look at your future-- assuming that under the circumstances, that knowledge doesn't grant you the ability to change it-- would you want to know?

If you do know-- would you rather you didn't?

True. Are we talking about a winning the lottery in a few years future or hi, you're going to die of massive brain tumor on your 45th birthday kind of future? And is the person who's telling you this a friend, colleague, or Bob from across the street?

I was thinking something a little more mundane. 'This is who you'll be in ten years,' 'this is what you'll be doing in three months.' The future doesn't always have to be so dramatic.

If Bob from across the street tries to read my palms, I'm going to laugh it off. If a friend or colleague tells me, I might give it a little more credence.

Dramatic or not, I still don't think I'd want to know. If in ten years, I'll be a different person than who I am now, I'll just know it's because of what I did. Knowing that it happens won't actually change the way I do things now, so like I said, keep me out of the little revelation. Still no point other than to give you ulcers from worrying.

Hey, Bob from across the street was a professional palm reader. I'll have you know he was just as good as predicting rain as the weather guy was.

That's a pessimistic way to look at it.

Considering how accurate my local weather guys were, that's not saying much.

How is that pessimistic? Just because I rather live in the moment now doesn't meant I'm pessimistic. It's what I prefer and what makes sense to me. I get the feeling you want somebody to tell you the same answer you've already considered and you're not getting it from me.

It seems pessimistic that you'd assume your future was something to worry about, that's all. Maybe you win. Maybe your future's nice. I don't really need an answer, I'm just curious.

I have yet to meet one who is.

Uh huh. Just like I was 'just curious' when I posted my own anonymous question to the network. I know how these things work.

And did the faceless masses of the City help you make your decisions?

Nope. I made my own decision in the end. But I did get some interesting opinions from a lot people who I thought I knew. Oh, the things people say when they don't think you're listening.

When they don't know who's listening, you mean?

I'll admit, that's part of what I'm curious about.

The part about them speaking freely? So you're waiting on a particular answer from a particular person?

Not exactly.

I'm more interested in knowing how some people feel than others, but I don't plan to do anything differently based on that information.

So eventually, you'll be making your own decisions.

There isn't much to decide.

Either you're the person who doesn't know their future or you're the person who does know the future of somebody else. Two options with two different important decisions.

Yes, yes, Hypothetical, blah blah blah. I just wouldn't consider that 'not much'.

I know things some people don't know. I've heard things I didn't know, though who can tell whether they're true.

I've no intention of telling anyone anything, though.

Until they ask.

Well, now I know who to talk to when I have secrets.

Keeping secrets around here can be tricky.

So can keeping your mouth shut about the future.

Keeping your mouth shut about anything. Well, there's the disadvantage to knowing.

The curses are run by old biddies who crave gossip. I know this as fact.
