I should have guessed we were just about due for this... visitation? It doesn't seem fair to call it an invasion, since many of you are as unwilling to be here as we are.

It never lasts long, at least.

[With that little detail sealed away, Angela gets to the point of her visit.]

I'm pretty close to my due date, so the baby can come at anytime, including today. If I go into labor, will you deliver for me?

[Angela could have asked any of the other doctors in the hospital, House included, but she needs somebody she feels comfortable with and trusts. Funny how it ended up being Cameron, but with the details Angela hasn't dropped yet, she needs somebody with compassion.]

Of course.

[She manages to keep a creeping note of worry out of her voice; what would it mean if Angela's baby were to be born in the wrong world?]

I'd be honored.

[That is one of Angela's worries--mainly that Hodgins would never forgive her if she returned with their child in her arms and no recollection of having given birth at all--but with it being one of the lesser important ones, the main one is the baby's health.]

Also, I should warn you that if it does happen to you, there might be some complications with the baby.

Complications?

[Her fingers tighten at the full skirt of her dress, pulling it into a small ball of fabric in the palm of her hand.]

I'm a carrier for Leber congenital amaurosis. So's Hodgins. The baby has a twenty-five percent chance of being born blind, but that's more of a percentage than I'd like to begin with.

[Her brow furrows slightly at that, and she worries her lip lightly, but nods.]

We'll take care of you, if it happens while you're here.

[She desperately wants to say it will be all right, but by now she's learning her lesson on that count.]

It's not me I'm worried about. It's the baby.

[That much is obvious. However, what does she expect Cameron to do? There isn't a hardcoded curse for this and blindness is blindness. There are so many people who are blind that live long and fulfilling lives. Angela knows this, but still, can anyone blame her if she wants her child to be free of that genetic disposition? It may not be all right, but if there's a chance than a medical professional from another world might be able to do something just in case, Angela's willing to play that hand.]

It's a lot to dump on you, I know, but... [I'm desperate. In case her edge-of-sobbing expression doesn't show.]

I meant both of you.

[A little weakly, she smiles, and reaches for Angela's hand.]

[She lets Cameron take her hand and gives the doctor a return weak smile. Oh, to hell with this. Angela needs a hug. Excuse her as she leans forward and wraps her arms around Cameron's shoulders.]

[Standoffish as Cameron can be at times, comforting patients really is her strong point. And she does care for Angela, so she returns the embrace, careful not to bump her belly too much.]

[The baby wants to make this a group hug and defiantly kicks Angela right under her ribs, making her give off a soft grunt as she pulls back.]

Okay, apparently this kid hates hugs or needs food. Probably both. Lunch?

[Laughingly.]

Sure, as long as you're not too worried about bumping into yourself. I could bring something back?
